Today is the 10th anniversary of Apple announcing its first MacBook Pro model featuring a greater-resolution Retina display.
It was unveiled at WWDC 2012 The 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro introduced a slimmer design than the previous model. This is because Apple took away its built-in Ethernet port FireWire port as well as the DVD/CD drive.
The notebook came with two Thunderbolt ports and two USB-A ports. There is also an HDMI port as well as An SD slot for cards, MagSafe 2. It also has an audio jack for headphones.
“The MacBook Pro with Retina display pushes the limits of performance and portability like no other notebook,” stated Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook, in a press release to announce the launch of the MacBook Pro.
“With a gorgeous Retina display, all-flash architecture, and a radically thin and light design, the new MacBook Pro is the most advanced Mac we have ever built.”
In the year 2000, Apple said the MacBook Pro featuring a Retina display had the highest resolution notebook display with two20 pixels to an inch. The MacBook Pro was the very initial MacBook Pro to feature flash storage, which made it possible to have a thinner and lighter appearance.
It was powered by Intel’s third-generation quad-core Core i7 processors and was equipped with Nvidia GeForce GT650M graphics that can support up to 16GB in RAM as well as up to 768GB SSD.
Prices for the initial Retina MacBook Pro began at $2999 in the United States. On October 12, 2012, Apple introduced a new 13-inch MacBook Pro with a Retina display. It was launched at a lower cost of $1,699. Both notebooks are on Apple’s list of obsolete products.
